NASCAR Winston Cup: Robby Gordon won the NASCAR Winston Cup Sirius at the Glen to sweep both road course events on the circuit this year. He also won the the Dodge/Save Mart 350 at Sonoma, California on June 22 for one of his three career Winston Cup victories. The Chevrolet Monte Carlo gave Richard Childress Racing its first triumph at the 11-turn Watkins Glen International permanent road course. Hired ringer Scott Pruett, a road course specialist, started 28th and finished second in a Dodge Intrepid. Dale Earnhardt Jr.

was third in a Chevrolet, while Jimmie Johnson passed Kevin Harvick on the final lap to claim fourth. Harvick made contact with pole-sitter Jeff Gordon on the final corner, taking out the four-time Winston Cup champion. Jeff Gordon was running third entering the final lap but was short on fuel, which may have been the cause of Harvick bumping him in the back. Jeff Gordon settled for 33rd place.

He is the all-time Winston Cup leader with seven road course victories, four at The Glen. Harvick finished fifth. Points leader Matt Kenseth finished eighth, a career best on a road course during his four years in Winston Cup competition. Kenseth owns a 258-point advantage over Earnhardt.
